“Is it day 8? Or maybe day 28? Has it been the weekend yet? Wait, is my banana bread burning?”
We’ve all been locked indoors to help fight the good fight against COVID-19 by staying put; something that’s quite difficult for those with wanderlust in their hearts. Although our April and Easter travel plans have had to be postponed, we’ve come up with some creative and fun ways to help you pass the time till your next holiday.
Here’s how we are “traveling” while in lockdown.
Go on Safari
Although we can’t roam around the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi national park and witness the beauty of autumn in the African wild, there’s still some great ways you can go on a African safari while in the comfort of your own home. Tembe National Park in KwaZulu-Natal offers a livestream of one of their watering holes. Here, you can witness the majesty of Africa’s friendly giants; and all you need is an internet connection and unlimited time (trust us, you won’t be able to stop watching)!
Tembe National Park is situated near ANEW Hotel Hluhluwe.
Around the world in 80 tastes
Although we love baking unlimited amounts of sourdough and banana bread; we definitely think it’s time to shake things up. One of the best parts of traveling to a new destination is savouring its delicious tastes and flavours. Why not travel by plate during lockdown and taste the world from your very own kitchen! From decadent Italian pasta that transports you to the breathtaking shores of Sicily, to the unique delicacy of the Parisian Macarons, the world is (literally) your oyster!
Have a movie night with travel films
Although you might not be able to teleport to a destination that isn’t your home, you can live vicariously through your favourite movie characters. Since we’re already addicted to binging Netflix; why not focus your watching habits on some of the best travel movies or documentaries. Netflix, DSTV, and Showmax feature some amazing movies that will transport you to your dream holiday destination (even if it is only for a few hours). Alternatively, there’s ample amounts of travel shows you can watch.
Update your travel bucket list.
Just because traveling is currently somewhat limited, it doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck at home forever! Why not create or update your ultimate travel bucket list, for all your future endeavors. Read some articles about your destinations, learn more about the customs, or even learn the local language- the possibilities are unlimited. You can even do some research on the perfect itinerary.
